Sting Ray Bay Part 2

We got a cool new zoo exhibit!  Owen and I decided we definitely had to come back with Dad (who would love it more than us)!  Did you see Part 1?  It turned into a whole day long adventure of fun—we decided to do it all!

See he really is excited!  Unfortunately, they weren’t doing a feeding during this trip.

Owen was not so excited this time.

Dad agreed Owen needed a stingray to commemorate the day!

He later named his stingray “Tow Truck”, and it sleeps with him every night.

Here he was swinging him around making him swim.

Look how the mom and kiddo hippo are sleeping together!  So cute.

Owen REALLY wanted to ride the carousel- specifically the giraffe.  Then we went to feed the giraffes again!

We fed Kenya who is VERY hungry.  Owen proclaimed that Kenya was licking and smelling him!  Licking is accurate since he wrapped his whole tongue around Owen’s hand to eat the lettuce leaves!

A little more tongue action for you.  It’s 18 inches long!

Lastly, Owen requested this picture of him in the boat.  This is the only face he would make though!  HA!

One Fish Two Fish

DSC_0071

Owen LOVES LOVES LOVES silly rhyming words and Dr. Seuss.  While his favorite is There’s a Wocket in my Pocket, we decided to explore One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  Since I’m finally coming out of my early pregnancy exhaustion, I decided to kick it back into gear with an easy craft.  We made our own fishbowls!

Owen loves glue sticks… period.

I found an easy corn syrup paint recipe that dries shiny so it looks like water!

Lot of paint glopping!  Very sticky paint glopping…

Sting Ray Bay Part 1

2013-03-04_10-11-36_49
Our zoo has recently gotten an awesome new attraction called Sting Ray Bay.  Owen and I headed out during members preview week to check it out without the crowds.  It was very cool!!  Owen was a little short and had to be held, so we didn’t get too many pictures of him actually touching them.

The waterfall was Owen’s favorite part.

They have random feedings where you buy a cut up fish, hold a piece between your fingers palm up, and the stingray swims over and sucks it up off your hand like a vacuum!  It was SO cool!  Owen liked the cut up fish but wanted nothing to do with feeding them (probably because you had to put your hand really deep)!

The stingrays are trained to like human interaction, so they are very friendly.

After the stingrays we headed to the farm and rode the zoo train.  Owen is waiting is turn patiently!

Then we went to the prairie dogs where you can climb up in the little bubbles and be at their level.

Owen peeking at them.  He was naming everything they were eating for breakfast!  haha

Then for some reason he noticed this windmill for the first time and was mesmerized.  He stood and watched it from every angle!  I think we’re going to have to get a small one for the garden.

He figured out how it worked pretty quickly since it was a windy day!

Another great part of the day was our lunch with two gibbon friends.  It was like we were on display!

We have a new giraffe baby that is only 8 weeks old.  Owen found her very interesting, especially since she was already bigger than him!

These smoothies are his latest food request at the zoo because they have a palm tree on the straw.

It was a great trip and we knew we had to go back Saturday with Dad.  Check out Part 2!
