A Walk at the Frozen Pond

We decided to bundle up and head to a local park to see if anything had changed during our cold cold weather.

Owen wanted to bring Fluffy on our adventure!

We super bundled Margot since it was below freezing.

We were shocked to see the pond had frozen over!

The ducks were very excited to see us, and it was funny to see them running across the ice instead of swimming!

She was such a trooper!  We only made it about 15 minutes but it was fun to explore!

Bubble Science and Polar Vortex 2014

Owen and I have started slowly working in some preschool activities again!  Owen watched an episode of Curious George that was all about bubbles, and we decided to try out a few experiments!  Since we were under a “polar vortex” what better than to freeze bubbles!

Here is the before:

And the after:

Then we came inside to do some warmer bubble experiments.  Margot watched

We learned that a bubble won’t pop until something dry touches it.  So as long as your hands, the table, the straw, and anything else are wet, you can do a lot of cool tricks like pick it up or do bubbles inside bubbles inside bubbles!

This video is probably really shaky since I was helping and recording!

Then he wanted to repeat Curious George’s experiment and make bubbles with a fan.  Shocking right? Winking smile

Then somehow we started talking about volcanoes again.  So we played with baking soda.

Then we tried to make colored explosions (and get in a little fine motor work).

That wasn’t very gratifying for O, so we just poured it on!

One happy boy!  Stay tuned for our second day exploring the unusually cold weather.

Margot is Four Months Old!

DSC_0647

She has weighed in at 15lbs and 24in.  Her eyes are now a dark grey blue on the outside and turn a light brown at the center.

Margot is still as giggly and smiley as ever!  She is one of the happiest babies I’ve ever seen.

She loves to chew on everything.  I thought she was teething, but nothing has popped out yet.

She loves her Johnny Jumper and Exersaucer and is happy as a clam bouncing or playing.

She has started rotating herself while on her stomach. She’s rolling a tiny bit more and has made one full rotation from back to stomach to back, but she looked so shocked, I’ll don’t think we’ll be seeing that again soon!  (Update: 1/19- She is starting to pull her knees up under her and has scooted forward about a foot by pulling herself across her playmat!)

She is sleeping 8-12 hours straight at night but has trouble initially getting to sleep at night.  She takes three naps on a good day, five on a bad day.  She still needs her arms swaddled to sleep though.

She has TONS of hair, but we still can’t figure out who she looks like!
